Quality Engineering

Welcome to this course on Quality Engineering for Freelancers.

Quality Engineering goes beyond finding defects or bugs in software. It is about understanding what quality means, identifying potential risks, preventing issues, and ensuring that software delivers real value to its users. As a Quality Engineer, your role is not simply to check whether an application works, but to evaluate whether it is reliable, usable, secure, and fit for its intended purpose.

Across three modules, you will build your Quality Engineering skills step by step. You will first explore the fundamentals of software quality and the mindset of a modern Quality Engineer, including the purpose of testing, key testing principles, different testing approaches, and how to organize testing activities through test plans and test cases. You will then learn how to analyse requirements and design effective tests, exploring the different test levels and applying Black-box, White-box, and Experience-based testing techniques. Finally, you will examine how to establish shared quality expectations, use AI to support Quality Engineering activities, and assess testing and release readiness. You will also learn how to interpret acceptance criteria, collaborate with stakeholders, and use testing evidence to support quality decisions.

Throughout the course, you will develop both the technical foundations and critical thinking skills needed to approach Quality Engineering projects professionally. You will also explore how AI-powered tools can support your work, while maintaining human judgment and protecting confidential information.

By the end of the course, you will have a practical foundation for taking on freelance Quality Engineering assignments, from understanding client requirements and identifying risks to designing tests, evaluating results, and communicating whether a product is ready for release.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

Explain the fundamentals of Quality Engineering, including the purpose and objectives of software testing, the role and responsibilities of a Quality Engineer, and how test plans, test cases, and testing principles contribute to software quality;

Apply appropriate test levels and test design techniques to analyse requirements, identify test conditions, and develop effective test cases that provide appropriate coverage while addressing potential risks; and

Establish and evaluate quality expectations by interpreting acceptance criteria, collaborating with stakeholders, using AI responsibly to support testing activities, and analysing test evidence to assess quality and release readiness.

Certificate

Participants who meet the course requirements will receive a Certificate of Completion issued in electronic format.
